Limara Body Spray (part II), Stevie Vann, Stevie Lange, Remember My Name

The search continues…

I have had a few comments on my blog from my earlier post about Limara body sprays, and I am still looking for any footage of the (infamous?) advert from the 1980’s. If you know of it’s whereabouts…do let on!

In the mean time I have been fortunate enough to be sent an image from the ‘Remember My Name’ single sleeve.

Thanks to Erika from the Stevie Lange web site… more research to do! Click the icon below to hear a short audio clip…

I too have been searching for footage and a copy of the music itself. I originally owned the single until I noticed the day after a party that it had mysteriously disappeared! I never found out who took it! Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Jane – I’m working on getting the video footage made available again. I have it on VHS now, but not in any digital form, and with an agreement not to distribute the VHS version.

The audio file is a bit easier to sort out – that is fairly widely available on various sites now as an MP3 file… in fact that’s the first thing I found when searching! However the metvthemetunes site appears to have now been brought to book by whoever, so I can’t really point you there any more.

send me an email to hal dot maclean at btinternet dot com… 😉

My daughter was born Jan 10th 1987 and we called her Limara. By that time the advert was no longer being shown but we loved the name. We kept a Limara spray for her till she was 18 and she wore it when she got married. I also liked Timote as a name but our next child was a boy! l have the music but have been trying to get copy of the advert to show my daughter (who is also blonde)

Why do you think that? Dumb? Mean? I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying – are you commenting on the fact that someone called their daughter Limara? It’s a fine name – just happens to also be the name of a beauty product. I note you didn’t leave your own name… which kind of speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

As it happens, the band that I play in ‘Dante Fox’ (new album Under the Seven Skies out March 23rd from all good retailers, Amazon, iTunes etc) released a cover version of this very song on the 1998 album ‘The Fire Within’. We still play the song live as it is a crowd favourite. I can send you a copy of it if you like. Just contact me.

Thanks Mike – that would be good to have as a file here to download – I have the Stevie Lange version in my iTunes library (and it’s a regularly played one), and with the video footage it makes a nice collection. I’m trying to arrange a digital copy of the video (I have it in VHS), so hopefully that’ll make a nice set!

At the top of this post is a link to a short sample of the audio – only a taster, of course! I am based in mid Essex for my work… so most parts of the county are in easy reach.

I am waiting for a conversion to be done for me already, but that may not materialise… if so, let me know where you are and we can sort it out. Use the ‘Contact’ link in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

Take a look on youtube. the whole bloody advert is on there with soundtrack. A decent youtube video ripper should get you what you want.

Thanks Steve – I have got the video now, and in fact got a VHS version from the cosmetic company marketing dept. back in 2005. I was not allowed to reproduce it electronically, so didn’t, but have seen the ad on YouTube already. In fact, in another post I link to it.

YouTube rippers? whatever next! What happened to a good old screen recording.. 😉

I posted the video on youtube a year or so ago. If you want an mpeg I can send it to you. Meanwhile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOBhlROJE2U

I found it on an old VHS tape, captured it and using Final Cut Pro cleaned it up best I could. The sound was only mono and quite quiet hence the hiss, I have used noise reduction but didn’t want to loose to much of the trebble. I do have a copy of the Stevie Lange single which has Limara on the cover. I thought about an overdub but the lyrics of the two songs are different. Again if you want me to send a better quality MPEG rather than you ripping the Youtube version I am happy to do that. It still isn’t fantastic though.

The best place to get the audio from is Stevie Vann’s web site. You’ll need to record it form the player there:

As others have said, the footage is on YouTube now, so my VHS copy is probably obsolete, however it’s worth watching (repeatedly) still!

I was an 80’s child and seeing the Limara bodyspray advert again on Youtube brought all the memories flooding back. The days when life was simple and carefree and when the fair would come to town. Can you believe I managed to get my hands on two tins of Limara from a shop in London a few years back? Unfortunately it was the last two. It would have raked in the cash on ebay …lol. Nice to reminisce with you guys…remember the Terrys All Gold and Milk Tray ads?

It is a great track and recently played it on my turntable for my young son . He loved it !

If memory serves…I was working with Smith and Nephew in Welwyn Garden City when we launched this brand..it was a big to do (spent a lot of money on the launch itself) and that ad was fantastic…it was 1980/1981 and sadly i dont think it did very well.
