Remember it? No… not the product… THE advert of all time!
Limara body spray or shampoo or something, whatever it was, was totally eclipsed by the advertising which was pretty spectacular.
OK, I was a pubescent schoolboy at the time, and this was the early 1980s, but I swear just about every red blooded rock loving kid I knew was in love… with the cartoon character they used in the ad!
She had it all – and she emerged from a pond/waterfall, still wet, to a pounding rock song (‘Remember My Name’) and she walked purposefully (nay, sexually) to a distant castle where her obviously pretty lucky lover was apparently awaiting… phew… even thinking about it now sends me back to a time when spots ran amok!
Well, I can’t find the advert itself (oh please tell me you’ve got a copy somewhere…) but I did happen across the song…
Remember My Name, indeed – could hardly bloomin’ forget it! And here I am nearly a quarter of a century later still pining over a cartoon girl – talk about the ultimate fantasy chick!
Hello,
Just stumbled across this website after typing my middle name on google. My parents named me after this body spray and advert in 1981. I have always wondered what the advert was like as I assume it must be pretty awsome to inspire people to name their children after it!
Can’t believe their are so many others named after this too, I would love to see the ad or here the song should anyone know of how to obtain this I would be very greatful!
Nice to read your comments and learn about my name after so long!!!
Hi Hayley – welcome! Yes, the advert is gaining a bit of cult status for sure, and certainly seems to have inspired a lot of folk.
I have a VHS copy of the advert which I use to teach about animation and short story telling, so I’ll try to at least get some stills from it online very soon.
The advert had a song called ‘Remember My Name’ sung by Stevie Vann Lange, and you can hear a version of that from her website .
You can see the advert here…

It’s at the end of a commercial break consisting of Paul Hogan for Forsters Lager, the L’Oreal Studio Line gel stuff, Chum dog food and finally the version of the ad with the castle and the sleeping prince.
I remember three of the varieties were Yellow Moon, Oriental Garden, Green Summer but I can’t remember the other three. You can still buy the stuff in Holland but I have no idea if it smells the same.

Fantastic stuff Lisle – You’re a star! This seems shorter than the VHS version I have got, but it gives a clue as to what this is all about. I’ll upload it here (minus the other ads)…

hi my name is also limara named after the advert. Born in 1983. That is the first time i have ever seen the advert it’s grate.
Hi Limara… welcome! Just to make me feel really old, in 1983 I was in secondary school doing my ‘A’ levels in 6th form. The advert remains one of the best examples of animation and music from those times, IMO. Glad you like it too 🙂
The first single I ever owned! And I’m a (straight) girl :o)
The single sleeve was an image from the ad, too – copy of it here if anyone’s struggling to see the video for any reason: http://www.visionthing.org.uk/limara-single.jpg
Hi Angelnorth – thanks! I used to have that image on here some years ago, but changing the blog software seems to have helped me lose it… so thanks for linking back to it for me!
EDIT
hang on – it’s back! On an earlier Limara post from some yeas ago… looky looky:

🙂
Hey, I too am named after the bodyspray!
I was born in December 1981 and my mum called it me so I could grow up and find a prince…. :-s
I was also told that Limara is Irish for Lady of the Water… strange that as I hate water with a passion!
Hi Limara – welcome! Lady of the Water sounds about right given the video footage where the character is bathing in a pool… 🙂
Did you find your prince?
Yeah I did Hal, he was a right royal…… 🙂

Hi, I remember the advert and the music (have the 7″) and the body spray with great fondness. I spent many a stolen hour with the first boyfriend in 1982 in deep grass making out – reeking of the stuff. I would love to smell it again (favourite was the yellow one)

My name is limara t born in 1990. It is nice to see i’m not the only one.
Hi my name is also Limara i was born Jan 1985, i cant beleive there are so many others with the same name… i honsetly thought i was the only one! I was born in UK but moved to Australia when i was only 15mnths old, i have never come across someone with my name. When i was in school a teacher from south africa told me that Limara was a flower in the african forrest and it means “flower of the sun” and that they actually used that flower in making the scent for the spray. I am also so sick of never being able to get anything with my name on it!! Love this blog… i dont feel so lost!!!
